Texas Music Thursday: Matt and the Herdsmen

As some of you may already know, I just moved to South Texas/Rio Grande Valley about three months ago. One of the first things I did once that decision was made, was look up "Country music in RGV". Like yall know by now, I love my country music so I needed to make sure there would be some good stuff around. I followed a couple of venues in the area to keep me updated with any upcoming concerts. I saved some dates in my calendar for potential concerts. Unfortunately I have not been able to make it out to any. During my search I came across a band that I was not yet familiar with, but I am extremely happy to have found. Matt and the Herdsmen, is who I want to share with you on this weeks Texas Music Thursday.
I have mentioned Matt and the Herdsmen before in my blog, but I wanted to go into detail of who they are. The band started in Edinburg,Tx close to two years ago. Although two years may not seem like a long time, the four young men have already come along way. They have begun to make a name for themselves in the Texas Music Scene. I imagine that they get straight to work in 2013 because by close to the end of 2014, they released their first album titled "Small Town Stories". The album included originals written by them, which is a huge plus for me.

The album and their single "Dance All Night" gained them some well deserved recognition. They have performed all around Texas in cities such as Austin, Houston (My City), San Antonio, South Padre and obviously McAllen among others. The band has even opened up for some of my personal favorites, Easton Corbin, Kyle Park, and recently Randy Rogers Band. Unfortunately I have yet to see them perform, but they perform a lot of shows locally so I am hopeful that it will change...eventually.

They are still growing into their music but they have potential for greatness. They just gotta jeep going through this journey, which I hope they do. Well, I am sure you will enjoy their music as much as I do. If you don't, then I guess we cant be friends....just kidding..kind of. If you do like them, then make sure to follow them on Twitter @mattandtheherds, Instagram @mattandtheherdsmen like them on Facebook: Matt and The Herdsmen, and check out their website for more info http://www.mattandtheherdsmen.com/

Since they only have one album out, chosing the songs for my playlist for this was kind of easy. However I really do like all of the songs on the album and you should too. Check it out!

Do you know of any local bands or artist in your area? When you've moved (or if you ever move) to a  new place, what are some things it MUST have? Let me know.

  1. Nice to hear some new music - I used to be really into the local music scene when I was younger.

    1. I love finding new music no matter the genre. I wish I would have gotten into local music sooner because I have missed out on some great stuff.

  2. Awesome! I love learning about new music! I used to be really into the local music scene in Milwaukee (where I live,) but since having kids, I haven't had much of a chance to go to concerts anymore. I'd like to start again, though. Hope you get to see this band soon. Will be looking forward to the review of them live.
